Friday we had our final design competition for our dynamics project. Our mechanism performed very well and we scored 115 out of 100. We didn’t perform perfectly, but, before Friday we had been operating our mechanism with two people. Friday we found out that only 1 person was allowed to operate the machine. Oh well, I was able to operate it and we got our A. All’s well that ends well.
Last night we we3re able to complete our dynamics project. Barring any significant failures in testing the device, we won’t be making any additional changed to it.
We rectified all of the issues that we discovered in our first design review. We lacked all of the controls that we needed as well as having some stability issues. We added a control bar and fixed up the sliding mechanism. The mechanism works basically perfectly.
I’ve spent a lot of time working on my dynamics project in the past 2 days. The gist of the assignment is to build a device capable of hitting a ball into 2 separate holes. The team and I managed to get almost all of the aluminum parts fabricated and the hitting mechanism just about completed. Despite our best efforts to be careful when making the parts they still didn’t fit together as perfectly as we had hoped. Still, it fits together well enough that it will work as designed.
We still have a decent amount of work ahead of us. We need to build all of the controls for the mechanism as well as attach the 3 main pieces of it together. We do not need to have our complete mechanism for our design review coming up this week, however, the more we can get done the better.
